Work & Play

Design Type:  Poster
Designer:  Haezeline Go
The Osborn internship poster is submitted to several schools throughout the country as a way of introducing ourselves to potential interns. We believe, as a growing design firm, in establishing an ongoing relationship with the design community. Past campaigns gave us the privilege to work with talented students. We value and foster the newfound relationships and strengthen our collaborative process. The internship is also an opportunity to be exposed to the rich cultural environment of Los Angeles. The city plays an integral part in how we contextualize our design and architectural work. It is a part of our culture, a source of much inspiration. As a designer, I find that when work borrows methods from play, the project takes shape in unexpected and interesting ways. Graphic and typographic elements are built upon each other. Their entanglement gives a sense of movement further demonstrating the reciprocal nature of “work” and “play.” Using vintage found typography, I linked one shape to another revealing the acronym L.A. (Los Angeles) in “play.” Like puzzle pieces, the modularity of the typography echoes the repetitive lines of an architectural drawing. The content was derived from brainstorming words that reflect our experience of the city and juxtaposing them to words delineate our working process. As a result, the selected pairs brought a poetic quality and a syncopated rhythm to the poster’s text: Eat, dress, Explore, Crump, Clown, Get Down, Shoot, Scoot, Inside Out, Devour, Arise, Frame, Scene, saw, cut, Noodle, Doodle, Explore, trick, grind, tour, Agitate, question, explore, unleash, shade, touch, sift, Speak Up!, Speak Out!, throw, catch, debate, facilitate, scene… The words navigate the viewer through the composition much as it reveals a city, our way of thinking and as well as a workplace culture.
