A new Museum for Constantin Brancusi, Paris, France

Design Type:  Building Architecture
Designer:  Mohammed Hossain
Jewelry box for Brancusi’s artifacts:: This proposal is to re-envision a museum that is not mere a repository of the works of a complex sculptor well known for his élan vital towards loftier spheres of being. The production of form originated from the harmonics of matter and thought. The process of becoming is the shape, a display of transformation, and witness to its materialization. The aim of this, in Heidegger’s terms, is the ‘un-concealment of being’, a perceptual presence which displays itself. The object describing its presence, in which one can reflect as a mirror. “The chewing away of the upper edge of the block creates a wild transitional space. The cuts are like erosion in rock, the frayed edge of clothing, a worm-eaten block of wood, a ripped page of calligraphy. The block isn’t perfect any more. In a lecture the sculptor Richard Fleischner once showed a photo of the edge of a wooden bar stool from fanelli’s bar in soho . It had small rectangular burn marks along the edge. Fleischner pointed out that these were where people had laid their cigarettes “for just a moment” while they went to the bathroom, but returned too late. He called for sculpture that would have that intensity of life. This idea doesn’t have anything to do with Brancusi’s spirit; it is of a different time, reflect a different ideal. But Brancusi’s ideal is protected and respected by wrapping this other one around it.” (PL).
